Hi listeners! Today’s jam is going to be a popular piano ballad sung by Bruno Mars that was released in 2012. Can you guys guess what it is? That’s right, it’s none other than “When I Was Your Man,” from his second studio album, Unorthodox Jukebox.
Truth be told, I can’t really say I’ve been in the type of situation that Bruno sings about in this song, but I definitely do feel the all the sadness and emotion that he puts into it — even if I didn’t write the song myself. However, I do have a personal experience that “When I Was Your Man” brings me back to.
Last May, I sang for my school’s talent show for the first time, with this song. The experience was pretty incredible. Lowell High School’s annual talent show usually almost or completely sells out, and there are 2,600 kids at the school. I’d performed onstage before, but never in front of so many people, so many kids around my age.
It was a spectacular experience; the audience was extremely supportive and my friends were all there. That day was the first time I expressed to everyone at school what I was passionate about and really showed them what my voice sounded like. The love and encouragement I received was one of a kind, which is why every time I hear or sing “When I Was Your Man,” I’m brought back to that night and how happy I was. Now I’m taking this song I love, to a place I love — at Sunset Media Wave, and finally making a better quality version. Hope you enjoy!
