Hello and welcome back to Learning My ABCs!
A few weeks ago, I got the opportunity to travel to Shanghai, China and during that time I recorded what I did each day for a week. So as promised in my previous post, I now present to you: My Week in Another World (Part 2 of a Photo Diary).
Day 4:
Today, my mom and I took my grandma out to lunch at the same place we went to the day before. Yep, it was that good! We ordered pretty much the same things: egg tart, boba, mango pudding, Shanghai dumplings, etc. Afterward, we went shopping at the Nanjing Square, the same place I went to four years ago when I last came to China. Below, I put a juxtaposition of the last time I visited Shanghai and now.
Witness the change that occurred in a matter of four years!
And look at how big Shanghai’s malls are! It’s a shopaholic’s dream!
At night, my uncle and I went out for a stroll and we ended up in a shopping center that looks like it came straight out of a Barbie movie. There were Western stores like McDonalds, Subway, and Forever 21, as well as small off-brand Asian stores. We didn’t really go into any of them but it was fun just walking around and window shopping.
Day 5:
Today, my mom, my grandma, and I took the subway to the Oriental Pearl Tower, the main attraction of Shanghai. Really, you just go and take pictures and marvel at the greatness of the architecture in China’s economic capital.
And then after, no surprise: I went shopping again! But this time, it was to buy food! I don’t want to describe it in detail because it is rather repulsive, but I saw a market that sold pig face… eyeballs and all.
Day 6:
On the last day, my uncle, my mom, and I went out to a salon to get our hair washed at one of the most famous hair salons in Shanghai (it was on my list of things I MUST do before I left Shanghai). It was super luxurious and kind of, sort of, maybe the highlight of my trip haha!
On the way home we walked through a park that reminded me of San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park. I’m pretty sure this is one of the last few “natural” areas in the city.
For dinner, my mom and I went out to eat hot pot, my favorite meal in the whole world! Hot pot is an interactive food. The restaurant served us a plate of raw food and a pot of broth, then my mom and I cooked it ourselves and enjoyed! My love for hot pot is eternal!
Day 7:
It was a bittersweet day today because my mom and I flew home. Though it was a fun, activity-packed trip, I’m glad to be going back to my home in San Francisco.
THE END.
Until next time, 再见 (Zai Jian, bye)! Thank you for reading/scrolling through the pictures and once again, thank you for Learning My ABCs with me.
