Hello friend. My name is Jordyn and this is my column, Little Morphlings.
When I was in second grade, my parents told me that I was going to switch to a new school. When I first heard the news, I had a meltdown. I mean, what eight-year-old wouldn’t? This new place was strange. Cult-like, even. It was a land filled with Catholicism, actual nuns and priests, as well as dreaded uniforms. Also, Jesus. Lots and lots of Jesus. Despite my initial grudge toward the school, I forged new friendships that made my stay a bit more bearable.
Looking back on that decision now, I can say that I would have been a completely different person had I stayed at my first school. It is an indisputable fact that my friends that I met at my new school shaped who I am today. Since they’ve played such an integral role in my life, I’ve decided to make my friends the focus of this project. Over the next few weeks, I will be interviewing my friends, and documenting their perspectives through my art.
I just want to answer these two questions: How have my friends changed? How have they changed me?
