Red & Gold: Introduction
MIchelle Xu
We all see the world a certain way. We’re shaped a particular way based on the people we meet and the experiences we encounter. Sometimes, we are molded due to the situation we are born into. Red & Gold, a new column by me, Michelle Xu, is set in the Tang Dynasty of Ancient China, and is based around two female characters with different backgrounds and views. Zhao Qianhua is a strong-willed, brave peasant girl, and Li Jingyu is a calm beauty of a high-ranking official, and together they slowly weave their way into the grand palace. In a society where women are supposed to be docile, these women slowly realize they don’t have to be what’s expected of them.
