Prefabs are often the bane of many LEGO builders; they can be bulky and overly-specialized, often hard to integrate into a design. But I think prefabs can provide an advantage in replicating the ornate detail seen in Art Nouveau. There are similarities between this style and the molds of these specialized bricks.
When I find a building that inspires me, I take components from its structure and find LEGO pieces that correspond to those shapes. As featured in an earlier post, minifigure ski poles served as the equivalent of a railing on The House of Five Continents. All of the parts that I have hoarded are collected from conventions and Bricklink, the eBay of LEGO. In the following photos, I will share with you some of my favorite pieces that I plan to use in my building.
