My garment collection, “Varsity” is inspired by a combination of the structured, architectural look of Victorian era clothing and the aesthetics of sports uniforms. These pieces include key Victorian features like boning, farthingales, and focus on accentuating the waist and hips. I mixed this aesthetic with more modern athletic details like patches seen on letterman jackets, numbers and stripes, etc.
The first look, modeled by Maya Gonzalez-Skinner, consists of structured hip pieces under the dress, a tutu-like layer made of tulle, and of course the dress with a built-in corset, decorated with patches.
The second look, modeled by Cait Yoffie, consists of a pair of wool pants, decorated with patches as an ode to my last name. The top she’s wearing is a cupped corset with lace-up details in the back.
