Jasmine Nojadera – Misty

Misty is like a dream you can barely recall. With this piece, I tried to depict the terror of forgetting a recollection of a dream. I chose to create a sculpture of a face without a body because when recalling a dream, we tend to leave out many important parts. The expression on her face portrays the feeling of having something on the tip of your tongue that you can’t quite grasp. This feeling leads her to anger and fear; think furrowed brows and tears.

The elevens in her eyes not only give a nod to 11:11 but also create a physical barrier that blocks her from seeing her own thoughts. I used a softly blended ombre in the background to symbolize the foggy imagery our brains conjure up when recollecting memories. There were conflicting ideas between the words “dreamy” and “dreamlike” leading me to use both to base my color palette on. The colors pink, purple and yellow came to mind when I think of “dreamy” and “dreamlike” so I chose to create bold contrast between these two colors.
