When most people think of monsters, they think of something horrible and grotesque lurking in the dark. I think, however, that there is something inherently human about the concept of a monster: viewing the world through different eyes, from the edges, through a mind not quite one’s own.
I wanted to express this in my painting – a monster who’s not scary because she’s a monster, but rather because she’s conceited and haughty. Her claws, pointed ears, trademark bite, and furred body give away what she is, but she’s proud of her wolfish features. She holds herself with elegance, almost daintily poised, contrasting the stark wolf bite, and the bored, borderline sneer on her face.
