It was Halloween, 2024 and I was ready. My costume? An astronaut, complete with fishbowl helmet and raygun- inspired by pulp sci-fi comic art and retrofuturism, as well as the space-kei aesthetic, but with a bright neon twist. Most of my time spent on the costume was conceptualizing it, in all of its whimsical alien astronought glory.
Constructing the costume involved drilling through a light cover, customizing my headphones, and ripping the speaker out of a very annoying raygun. Seen below is the incomplete version of the helmet.
