¡Hola amigos!
If you don’t know the song from just seeing the title, then you have been living under a rock for the past three months. For my last post of this session, hopefully not forever, I decided to take in inspiration from the hit Havana by Camila Cabello. She has recently broken out as a solo artist after making music for a few years in Fifth Harmony. I’ll be honest and say that I wasn’t a big fan of the band, nor her, but seeing the music video completely changed my mind. After reading this, you can check out the video down below. SPOILER ALERT: The video gives some serious Havana, Cuba vibes. I enjoyed seeing Latina culture being represented; especially now because of the debates about the Dream Act. Camila Cabello is an advocate for promoting the rights of dreamers.
For this piece, I decided to kill two birds with one stone and make a portrait of me wearing a traditional Mexican top. Why? Well, I need a self-portrait for my portfolio since I’m currently applying to colleges and this was the perfect excuse to create it. (And if you’re wondering, I plan on majoring in animation.) As you can probably tell, I tried to incorporate the color scheme of the album cover. I didn’t want to focus too much on the Cuban culture since I’m not from there, but rather represent my Mexican culture.
I hope you enjoyed my posts from this session and I hope to come back soon!
