1) What are you most proud of?
I’m most proud of my good listening skills and of being Mexican.
2) What are you most ashamed of?
I’m ashamed of being lazy, pessimistic, and not helping out at home with the chores.
3) If you could go back and reverse one decision in your life, what would it be?
Not too long ago it was Ash Wednesday (February 14) and I told a classmate that I was going to go to church in a way that made it seem like I didn’t want to go. She said, “So you don’t want to go to church?” I said that I did, but that I was hoping my mom would get home early so we could go together; so I wouldn’t have to go alone. This classmate then asked why I don’t sit with the people I already know from church. I told her that I didn’t want to because they all smoked weed and that I didn’t want to be around people that consume or use drugs. She then told me that I didn’t have to be a stereotypical Mexican. All I responded was “Yeah.” I wish I would’ve actually said something. If I could go back I would probably tell her that she’s wrong and that smoking weed is not a stereotype of any race.
4) What is your biggest dream in life?
My biggest dream is to have a successful life after college and to be able to travel with my family and friends around the world.
5) What difference would it make in your life if you felt completely safe, completely accepted, and completely loved?
If I felt completely safe, completely accepted, and completely loved I probably wouldn’t be so shy and I would probably try to make more friends and build actual strong friendships.
6) Do you think your parents did a good job while you were growing up? Why or why not?
I think my mom did a very good job while I was growing up and my dad, well, I guess he tried to. He just wasn’t always the best role model.
7) What’s one thing that you wish people understood about you?
I wish people would understand that there’s more to me than having glasses and being shy. I’m an actual person that can think. I’m not just shy.
8) What is your biggest personal shortcoming?
My biggest shortcoming is that often times I’m too selective with friends. As soon as I find something in the person that I don’t really agree with, I give up on trying to be friends. I also don’t try to build a long-lasting friendship with really anyone.
9) What event in your life has shaped you most as a person, and how did it do so?
I think moving to the neighborhood in which I live now has shaped me into who I am today. Seeing people that do drugs, people that sell drugs, and people into the night life on the streets has shaped me into who I am today. I’m a feminist who dislikes comments from men on the streets and that sees drug use as something bad. Seeing the aftermath of consuming drugs for years has made me realize that drugs are a serious matter. Living in this type of environment has also made me mature really fast and see the real side of the world which many children or even adults never get to see.
10) Have you ever treated a person in a way that you regret? What would you do differently if given the chance?
I can’t think of a time that I was intentionally mean to someone.
11) Do you think it’s possible for men and women to be “just friends?”
Yes, I definitely believe it’s possible for men and women to be “just friends.”
12) Would you rather be rich and lonely or financially destitute with lots of great family and friends? Why?
I rather be financially destitute and be with my family and friends because I’ve learned to appreciate relationships more than materialistic things. Money is not as important as feelings.
13) Tell me about something you did when you were drunk that you’ve never confessed to anyone.
I’m under the legal age of drinking so…I’ve never been drunk.
14) If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be and why?
If I could change one thing about myself it would have to be my shyness. I wish I wasn’t so shy because being shy has stopped me from accomplishing so many things “emotionally.” As I’ve mentioned in several of the questions above, I wish I could be more open so that I could build a solid friendship with someone.
15) If you knew you would die tomorrow, how would you spend today?
If I knew that I would die tomorrow I would probably spend time with my family and my closest friends and probably also visit the church.
16) Are you truly happy? Why or why not?
I don’t think I’m truly happy. I aspire to be someone who’s very happy, but I don’t think that’s something achievable because we all have our ups and downs. I am happy at times but I think I’m not truly happy because I’m not happy with who I am physically or who I am in society.
17) Have you ever been in love? How do you know, and what was it like for you?
I’ve never been in love so I can’t say.
18) When you’re home alone and nobody else is around, how do you like to spend your time?
This might be surprising and perhaps a little embarrassing for me to say but I like dancing and singing when I’m home alone because since I’m shy it’s something I only feel comfortable doing when alone.
19) What do you want people to say at your funeral?
I would like people to each share a happy memory they had with me from when I was alive.
20) If you could have a conversation with anyone living or dead, who would it be and why?
I would probably want to talk to my abuelita (grandma) Anita. I really miss her and I feel like there’s so much we didn’t get to talk about especially because she lived in Mexico.
21) Do you think you’re a genuinely good person? Why or why not?
I do think I’m a genuinely good person. I try to always think before I talk and be that person in others lives that can be there to listen and perhaps give some advice if that’s what the person desires. I’m also very patient which is perhaps one of the reasons why I’m a good listener.
22) How did you choose your current profession? Are you glad about your profession, or would you rather be doing something different?
I’m currently a student and I guess it chose me. I’m joking; school isn’t something I chose or that chose me; it’s just what I have to do, but as far as a profession, I hope to major in graphic design. I hope to own my own business in which I can apply the things I learn in the courses for the graphic design major.
23) If money was not an issue, how would you spend your time each day?
First and foremost, I would probably move to a different neighborhood and I guess I would travel a lot with my family and go to the college of my choice.
24) Tell me about your political leanings. Have they changed since you were younger? How were they developed?
I think when I was younger I didn’t really have any preferences but now I guess I prefer the Democratic party just because they’re not as conservative as Republicans.
25) What’s one thing that you do on a regular basis that you absolutely hate doing, but nobody knows how you feel about it?
I guess waking up early even though there are people that already know that.
26) Describe a memory you have about San Juan de los Lagos (Saint John of the Lakes).
A memory I have from San Juan is talking to my grandma about life. I remember how she would tell me about her life with my grandpa and about my great uncle [her brother]. She would tell me about some of the criminals he was presented with while he was the chief police officer of San Juan de los Lagos. She would also talk about my parents.
27) What is your favorite dish from San Juan?
My favorite dish from San Juan is tostadas de ceviche (right) y surimi (left) from the restaurant Mariscos El Burritas. Although it’s not really a customary dish it’s one of my favorites.
28) What are some important traditions in San Juan or nearby towns?
Since I’ve never lived in San Juan, I can’t say I’ve been to any of the events. One event that I’ve been to that is near San Juan is a celebration in honor of La Virgen del Refugio. It is celebrated on July 4th in a ranch [Rancho el Terrero] that is relatively close to San Juan.
29) Name some customary treats you have in San Juan?
Cajeta (milk caramel) I have to say is the main one but there’s also alfajor (coconut candy), membrillo (quince paste), jamoncillo (candy made with milk and sugar), and cocada (a different coconut candy).
30) Do you like visiting San Juan? Why?
Yes, I love visiting San Juan because I like visiting La Basilica and I like visiting my family.

Relación a mi: soy yo misma.
1) ¿Cuál es tu mayor orgullo?
Mis mayores orgullos son que soy muy buena escuchando a los demás y de ser Mexicana.
2) ¿De qué te avergüenzas más?
Me avergüenzo de ser floja perezosa, pesimista, y de no ayudar en la casa con los quehaceres.
3) ¿Si pudieras regresar a tu pasado y revertir una de tus decisiones cuál sería?
Hace poco fue viernes de ceniza (14 de Febrero) y yo le dije a una des mis compañeras que iba ir a misa de una manera que tal vez hizo que pensara que no quería ir, entonces ella me dijo, “entonces no quieres ir a misa?” Yo le dije que sí pero que me gustaría que mi mamá saliera temprano de trabajar para que me pudiera acompañar, para de esa manera no tendría que ir sola. Mi compañera entonces me dijo y porque no te sientas con las personas que conoces de tu iglesia. Yo le dije que no quería porque fuman y a mi no me gusta juntarme con personas que fuman o usan drogas. Ella entonces me dijo que no tenía que ser la tipica Mexicana. Yo lo único que le conteste fue sí. Me hubiera gustado haberle dicho que ella no tiene la razón y que fumar no es algo “típico” de una cultura en específico. Regresaría a mi pasado para poder revertir la decisión de quedarme callada.
4) ¿Cuál es tu sueño más grande en esta vida?
Mi sueño mas grande es ser exitosa después de la universidad y poder viajar con mi familia por todo el mundo.
5) ¿Qué diferencia habría en tu vida si te sintieras completamente segura, completamente aceptada, y completamente amada?
Si me sintiera completamente segura, completamente aceptada, y completamente amada seguramente no seria tímida y probablemente trataría de formar más amistades duraderas.
6) ¿Crees que tus padres hicieron un buen trabajo criándote? ¿Porqué o porqué no?
Creo que mi mamá hizo un buen trabajo criandome y mi papá pues lo intento pero no siempre fue el mejor ejemplo a seguir.
7) ¿Nombra una cosa que quisieras que la gente entendiera de ti?
Quisiera que la gente me pudiera entender que hay más debajo de esta muchacha tímida con lentes. Soy una persona de verdad que puede pensar. No soy timida nada más.
8) ¿Cuál es tu mayor defecto?
Mi mayor defecto es que soy demasiado selectiva con mis amigos. En cuanto le encuentro algo a esa persona con lo que no concuerdo, me doy por vencida y no trato de continuar una amistad. También no trato de formar una amistad duradera con nadie.
9) ¿Qué evento en tu vida ha sido el que te ha hecho la persona que eres hoy en día? ¿Cómo fue que te hizo la persona que eres actualmente?
Creo que el vivir en el vecindario donde vivo ahorita me ha convertido en la persona que soy hoy en dia. El ver personas que consumen drogas, personas que venden drogas, y personas de la vida nocturna me ha convertido en la persona que soy hoy en día. Soy feminista y no me gustan los comentarios de los hombres en la calle y que veo el consumo de drogas como algo malo. El ver el resultado de consumir drogas por años y me ha hecho darme cuenta que las drogas son algo serio. El vivir en este tipo de ambiente me ha hecho madurar muy rápido y ver el lado verdadero del mundo que muchos niños y a veces adultos nunca ven.
10) ¿Alguna vez has tratado a una persona de una manera de la cual después te hayas arrepentido? ¿Qué harías diferente si tuvieras la oportunidad?
No se me viene a la mente una ocasión en la que fui mala intencionalmente.
11) ¿Crees que sea posible que una amistad exista entre un hombre y una mujer?
Por supuesto que creo que sea posible que una amistad exista entre un hombre y una mujer.
12) ¿Prefieres ser rica y estar sola o ser pobre y tener muchos amigos y a tu familia?¿Por qué?
Prefiero ser pobre y tener muchos amigos y mi familia porque eh aprendido a apreciar relaciones en vez de cosas superficiales. El dinero no es tan importante como son los sentimientos.
13) ¿Dime una cosa que has hecho cuando has estado borracha y no le has confesado o contado a nadie?
Soy menor de edad…Nunca he estado borracha.
14) ¿Si pudieras cambiar una cosa sobre ti misma cuál sería y por qué?
Si pudiera cambiar una cosa sobre mi misma cambiaría mi timidez. Quisiera no ser tan tímida porque la timidez me ha impedido hacer tantas cosas “emocionalmente.” Como mencioné en varias de las respuestas, Quisiera ser mas abierta con los demás para poder formar una amistad sólida con alguien.
15) ¿Si supieras que mañana ya no vivirías en que ocuparías tu día hoy?
Si supiera que mañana moriría pasaria mas tiempo con mi familia y con mis amigos más cercanos y probablemente iría a la iglesia a visitar.
16) ¿Eres verdaderamente feliz?¿Por qué o por qué no?
No creo que soy verdaderamente feliz. Me gustaría ser una persona muy feliz pero no creo que eso sea posible porque todos tenemos nuestros altos y bajos. Soy feliz a veces pero no soy feliz verdaderamente porque no estoy feliz con la persona que soy físicamente ni mi posición dentro de la sociedad.
17) ¿Alguna vez has estado enamorada?¿Cómo supiste,y como fue para ti esa experiencia?
Nunca estado enamorada entonces no sabría decirles…
18) ¿Cuando estás en la casa, sola, que te gusta hacer?
Esto tal vez los sorprenda y tal vez un poco vergonzoso pero cuando estoy sola en la casa me gusta bailar y cantar porque es algo que solo me siento cómoda haciendo cuando estoy sola.
19) ¿Qué quieres que la gente diga en tu funeral?
Quiero que cada persona comparta un recuerdo bonito que tengan de mí de cuando vivía.
20) ¿Si pudieras tener una conversación con cualquier persona ya sea viva o muerta, con quién sería y por qué?
Me gustaría hablar con mi abuelita Anita. La extraño mucho y hay tantas cosas que no pudimos platicar y más porque ella vivía en México.
21) ¿Crees que verdaderamente eres una buena persona? ¿Por qué o por qué no?
Si creo que soy una buena persona. Trato de pensar antes de hablar y trato de ser esa persona que escucha a los demás y quizá aconsejarlos si ellos quieren. También tengo mucha paciencia e igual por eso soy muy buena escuchando a los demás.
22) ¿Cómo escogiste tu profesión actual? Estás feliz con tu profesión o te hubiera gustado tener una profesión diferente?
Ahorita soy estudiante y pues yo pienso que me escogió a mí. Estoy bromeando; la escuela no es algo que yo escogí y tampoco me escogió a mi, solo es algo que tengo que hacer pero encuanto una profesión…espero algun dia poder estudiar Diseño Gráfico. Espero tener mi propio negocio donde pueda aplicar las cosas que aprenda en la universidad.
23) ¿Si el dinero no fuera un problema o impedimento cómo pasarías todos los días?
Primeramente, me iría a vivir a un vecindario diferente y viajaría mucho con mi familia e iría a la universidad de mis sueños.
24) ¿Cuáles son tus inclinaciones políticas? ¿Han cambiado desde que eras más joven? ¿Cómo han evolucionado?
Cuando estaba chica no tenía ninguna preferencia política pero ahora pues prefiero el partido democrático porque no son igual de conservadores que los republicanos.
25) ¿Qué es algo que haces rutinariamente que odias hacer pero nadie sabe que te sientes así sobre esta situación?
Tener que despertarme temprano aunque hay personas que ya saben eso de mi
26) ¿Describe un recuerdo que tengas de San Juan?
Un recuerdo que tengo de San Juan es cuando platicaba con mi abuelita sobre la vida. Recuerdo que ella me hablaba de mi abuelito y de mi tío abuelo [su hermano]. Ella me contaba sobre los criminales con los que mi tio tenia que lidiar mientras era el comisario de San Juan de Los Lagos. Ella también me contaba de mis papás.
27) ¿Cuál es tu platillo favorito de San Juan?
Mi favorito platillo de San juan son las tostadas de ceviche (a la derecha) y surimi (a la izquierda) de con Mariscos el Burritas, aunque no sea un platillo típico de San Juan.
28) ¿Qué tradiciones tienen en San Juan o en los alrededores?
Como nunca eh vivido en San Juan nunca eh ido a uno de los eventos. Uno de los eventos a los que eh ido toma lugar cercas de San Juan. En Rancho el Terrero hay una celebración cada cuatro de Julio en honor a La Virgen del Refugio.
29) ¿Qué es lo más típico de San Juan?
La Cajeta es lo más típico pero también hay alfajor, membrillo, jamoncillo, y cocada.
30) ¿Te gusta ir de visita a San Juan? ¿Por qué?
Si, me encanta ir de visita a San Juan porque me gusta visitar la basílica y me gusta visitar a mi familia.
