Located in northern Italy, Ferrara is a small town hidden between the big cities of Bologna, Venice, and Florence. With its cobblestone streets and colorful buildings everywhere, it is quite charming and picturesque. Much of its buildings date back to the Renaissance, which was the reason why the whole town became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995. Popular destinations in Ferrara include the Estense Castle and its city walls, both of which were built during the Renaissance. Being able to walk by the castle every day was one of my favorite parts about staying in Ferrara because it was not something that I could do in the United States. Aside from having a rich history, the town has one of the world’s most delicious food (not exaggerating – Emiglia Romagna is listed for having the best food in the world by Forbes). Ferarra offers some of the best pasta and pizza I have ever eaten; I don’t think any Italian restaurant in America can compare. In addition, gelato stores, also known as gelaterias, can be found on virtually every street near the main square. If I had the chance to go anywhere in the world, I think I would go back to Italy.

For this piece, I decided to use only the three primary colors and white to create my palette. Because this was supposed to be dreamlike, I decided to stick with pastels for the colors of this painting. Since Italy has many bikes, I decided to put the image of the bike next to a cafe. To make the rest of the painting even more colorful, I chose to put a rainbow at the top of the cafe. Behind the rainbow is a space-inspired building with a glass dome on top. In addition, I added other people that are riding bikes in this painting, so the picture of the bike would fit in more. I hope this piece gives everyone some inspiration for their own projects!
